"The Prisoner"
This painting was done while I was in prison ministry here in Richmond. It's not about being an inmate in a
prison, but it was a way of depicting the freedom of a person, over looked. Often called the fringe people.

"Freedom's Joy"
One of the happiest things I use to do, and still do, is blowing bubbles! This piece is so freeing.
The life of a child skipping along on a beautiful day, enchanted by the colors of the bubbles.

"Rebirth"
Spirituality takes on more forms then we are able to see around us.
Just as a flower blooms, we bloom. If we are free enough to do so.

"A Forgotten Friend"
Perhaps a child brought their friend out to play, and forgot to take them back home.
If you look really closely in the right corner of this painting, you will see bubbles.

"The Greatest Performance"
Daring to kneel in the shadow of the cross, a clown weeps for a hurting world, filled with hurting people.

"Contemplative Peace"
This painting was a representation of my journey spiritually. "Be still and know that I am God."
Being outside, on a cold winter morning. There is a hush of silence that feels so safe and new.

"Transparent Freedom"
The colors and reflect and dance honestly in the light.
The bubbles are there if only for a few seconds, but they are there.

"The Choice"
Though a a quick glance you might only see a painting about abortion. This is not meant to be that at all.
As the artist, I painted this rather as a choice to become real. To become fully human and therefore fully alive.

"Lullaby Time"
In every piece of art I've ever done, there has always been an element of just kind of getting lost in
the sheer pleasure of different strokes. The antique cradle, hardwood floors and sheer curtains
were just fun to paint. I love hardwood floors!

"Simple Beauty"
Again I just plain love the simple beauty of bubbles and creating the transparence is wonderful!
The rose and the bubbles just seemed to ask to be painted. So I did.

"Pain"
When I saw this face,  The strong emotions, the strong lines in her face.
I had to put what I saw and felt down in pencil.

"Ever Learn"
When I painted this, I had been very involved in protesting nuclear disarmament.
I wonder where are we now.

My artist name is Zartarian.
It was also my maiden name, my father that adopted me was Armenian.
I continue using it in honor of him.

The newspaper article was done many years ago.
I am the same person as then, but much older and hopefully wiser.
